SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 11, 2004 - Emulation Technology (ET), today announced an industry first by offering a DFN/LAP package Logic Analyzer Probe Adapter. This adapter supports all Microchip Technology’s 512 Kbit I2C™ Serial EEPROM in the DFN/LAP package.
The new Bug Katcher enables software and hardware design engineers debugging programmable code to rapidly remove and replace the DFN/LAP package after making a programming code change to the EEPROM. This adapter eliminates the time consuming job of surface mounting and desoldering during the software development stage. The adapter also provides complete signal monitoring access for the DFN/LAP package during the software development.

• Adapter assembly’s ZIF socket allows users to remove the DFN/LAP package,
reprogram and re-insert into the development board without soldering
· Gold-plated test points provide quick connection of cables, test probes or jumpers

New DFN/LAP Surface Mount Base
The 8-pin surface mount base is made up of eight conductive “sleeves” held in place on a miniature PCB that emulates the DFN/LAP package. Each conductive sleeve provides a connection from the target board to the adapter top assembly. The adapter top assembly is easily plugged, by hand into these conductive sleeves once the base has been surface mounted to the target board. Extra surface mount bases purchased separately allow users to implement more than one development board for code development, testing and debug.
New DFN/LAP Package
The 6mm x 5mm x 1mm high DFN/LAP package enables designers to use a 512 Kbit
serial EEPROM in low-headroom applications while reducing cost and
increasing available board space. Users currently utilizing Microchip’s 128
Kbit or 256 Kbit EEPROM memory devices now have the option to design in a
higher-density EEPROM while retaining the same footprint. The low-voltage
24AA512, low-power 24LC512 and the low-power 1Mhz maximum clock frequency
24FC4512 are all available in the new DFN/LAP package.
